Frieze Art Fair 2019

Every year in London Frieze Art Fair strikes the hearts of millions of collectors, visitors, buyers and art lovers. Frieze Masters, Frieze London and Frieze Sculptures are the sections of this important fair returned to Regent’s Park from 3 October to 6 October 2019.
Celebrating the best of contemporary art, Frieze London brings more than 160 galleries from 35 countries, a full program of Projects and Talks, representing the most international edition to date.
London has always been a magnet for artists from across Europe and around the world. This issue celebrates the international talent that makes London a vital cultural capital. First-time participation from Brazilian, Lebanese and Estonian Galleries and collaborations with curators at institutions from Dhaka to Hong Kong, makes this Frieze London the most international fair ever staged.

Gagosian Gallery is the first and central booth titled “Helios” and dedicated to work by Sterling Ruby displaying colorful pieces and window-like paintings. Donna Huanca, Clinostat Alpha

From London, Simon Lee Gallerybooth has a new and immersive installation comprising painting, sculpture, sound and scent by Bolivian-American artist Donna Huanca. Gallery Batonfrom Seoul is at Frieze London with Koh San Keum artist. She is highly regarded as a leading female artist in minimal and conceptual fields in Korean contemporary art scene, and she begins her work reading and selecting texts from novel, newspaper, essays and law books, then translates them in her own visual language. She uses decorative objects such as faux pearls, beads, or knit textiles giving an abstract form to the text.

Performance
One of the strangest things at the fair is Tang Dixin’s participatory artwork, hosted by Shanghai-based Gallery Aike. In this unsettling installation, visitors are invited to get part of their body bandaged by an in-booth team of fake doctors and nurses.

Joël Andrianomearisoa, Labyrinth of Passions

New at Frieze London this year “Woven”curated by Cosmin Costinas, tells a global story about fibre and textile art. At W1 booth, Woven explores legacies of colonialism through the mediums of textiles, weaving and tapestry. Gallery Primae Noctisfrom Lugano, presents Joël Andrianomearisoa artworks. “The work arises from various manipulations; I know the elements that compose it, but in the instant I set them up I discover something else”. Fabric such as silk, cotton and paper are fundamentals to Andrianomearisoa.
His works are linked to unusual parallels between the Weimar Bauhaus teachings and the use of the fabric, a practice reserved exclusively to women. See Similar Artworks»
