SELECTED LOTS

Left: Isaac Israels - Two fisher women from Scheveningen on the beach; Right: Ferdinand Hart Nibbrig - A view on the fortress of Monschau in the Eifel, Germany

Isaac Israels (1865-1934) - Two fisher women from Scheveningen on the beach
With the artist's studio stamp 'Atelier Isaac Israels' (lower right). Oil on canvas, 56x68 cm. Isaac Israels was a Dutch representational painter, best known for his use of neutral tones and technique of flickering brushstrokes. He often depicted the streets and cafes of Amsterdam, along with the landscapes of Holland, India, and Bali, in a muted palette animated by his lively paint handling. The artist was part of the Amsterdam Impressionists group, who were influenced by German and French Impressionists such as Max Liebermann and Édouard Manet. See Auction Date & Price Estimate...
Catalogue: Old Masters, Nineteenth Century & Early Modern Art

Ferdinand Hart Nibbrig (1866-1915) - A view on the fortress of Monschau in the Eifel, Germany
Signed 'Hart Nibbrig.' (lower right). Oil on canvas, 50x60 cm. Painted circa 1904-1909. In the years 1904-1909 Ferdinand Hart Nibbrig regularly worked in hilly areas such as South Limburg, the Eifel and the German town of Monschau. He painted a number of panoramic landscapes with a broad pointillé technique from an elevated position. The brightness of colours and the nuances in green are typical of this period. Left: Piet Mondriaan - ‘Grazende kalfjes’ / Grazing cows in a polder landscape; Right: Matthijs Maris - The bridal veil

Piet Mondriaan (1872-1944) - ‘Grazende kalfjes’ / Grazing cows in a polder landscape
Originally signed ‘P Mondriaan.’, now reads 'F Mondriaan' (lower left); signed again, titled and annotated with the artist’s address ‘Ringdijk 81’ (on the stretcher). Oil on canvas, 48x67,5 cm. Painted circa 1901-1903. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity by Dr. Joop M. Joosten, 18 February 2008. See Auction Date & Price Estimate...
Catalogue: Old Masters, Nineteenth Century & Early Modern Art

Matthijs Maris (1839-1917) - The bridal veil
Oil (and possibly chalk) on canvas, 66,5x57,5 cm. Painted circa 1905-1915. Matthijs Maris is probably one of the most enigmatic Dutch artists of the nineteenth century. The present painting is a perfect example of the final stage of Maris’ oeuvre. Being more and more withdrawn from reality and public life, the artist feeds his hunger for perfection by slowly working on only a few paintings. This perfectionism is apparent in both composition and in texture and becomes a real obsession where the artist is never satisfied with the results. See Auction Date & Price Estimate...

Left: Johannes Christiaan Karel Klinkenberg - A view of the Oudezijds Kolk with the Oude Kerk in the distance, Amsterdam; Right: Johannes Christiaan Karel Klinkenberg - A view of Amsterdam, seen from the Groenburgwal with the Staalmeestersbrug on the houses of the Raamgracht and the Zuiderkerk

Johannes Christiaan Karel Klinkenberg (1852-1924) - A view of the Oudezijds Kolk with the Oude Kerk in the distance, Amsterdam
Signed 'Klinkenberg.' (lower left). Oil on canvas, 53x39,5 cm. Klinkenberg lived and worked for most of his life in The Hague, but from November 1887 to April 1893 he lived in Amsterdam, the city with its historical city centre and reflective canals, which provided the inspiration for some of his best works. The cityscape on offer is drawn from life in a rich, multi-faceted, well-balanced and yet still lively composition, through the brilliance of the sunlight and through just the right number of people in view. See Auction Date & Price Estimate...

Floris Arntzenius (1864-1925) - A butcher boy in the Wagenstraat with the Scala theatre in The Hague
Signed 'Fl. Arntzenius' (lower right). Oil on canvas, 61,5x39,5 cm. Arntzenius’ paintings reflect the sophisticated atmosphere of The Hague around the turn of the century. A butcher's boy in the Wagenstraat with the Scala theatre in The Hague is a great example of how Arntzenius captures the light and atmosphere of a rainy day. With this painting, Arntzenius marvellously depicts a scene of bustling city life and shows himself as a true master of The Hague city views. See Auction Date & Price Estimate...

The present painting will be included in Volume III of the forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the artist by Nicole Verdier. See Auction Date & Price Estimate...
