Bezel set with sapphires and topped with a lapis vase with gem-set flowers standing on a lapis base with maidens on silver and enamel steps. Both pave-set with sapphires and rubies holding jugs made from faceted amethysts. The silver well is underneath an enamel canopy supported by silver columns set with pearls emeralds and sapphires. The bevelled rock crystal panels are engraved with foliate scrolls and star motives surrounding applied cloisonné enamel trailing flowers. Plain paneled lid reveals the enamel painted interior of Apollo and the Muses against a striking turquoise blue ground. The base is also enamelled with the same turquoise ground. Fusee movement, when wound and start/stop the slide from the centre slide to the right, the bird rises smoothly through a very finely tooled and pierced gilt grille, becomes animated with a moving beak, a turning head, lively wings, and the tailfeather bobbing and body moving from side-to-side to a paused sequential birdsong in 1-1-2-3-2-3-4 order lasting over 20 seconds. Round box in blue enamelled gold, the cover strewn with pastilles, the polychrome enamelled frame, a leafy frieze between disc cutters, and the perimeter with four enamelled pilasters 'a similar decor. With a dedication engraved under the lid, translating as â prayer for a true friendâ . One explanation is that it was left by 'AM' to someone as a bequest. Provided by Abraham Bracebridge of Stanhope Street, Mayfair, the eldest son of another Abraham Bracebridge (d. 1789) of Atherstone, Warwickshire. He inherited the bulk of his father's estate.
