After Hans Holbein the Younger, English c.1497-1543- Portrait of Henry VIII; oil on canvas, 45.8 x 35.5 cm., (unframed). Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: A bust-length portrait of King Henry VIII after the lost original by Hans Holbein the Younger. The original was destroyed by fire in 1698, but is still well known through many copies, and is one of the most iconic images of the Tudor King. It was created in 1536–1537 as part of a mural showing the Tudor dynasty at the Palace of Whitehall, Westminster.
