Empire Mahogany and Marble-Top Cabinet
Empire Mahogany and Marble-Top Cabinet
19th century, in the Egyptian taste the rectangular marble top above a case fitted with a single faux drawer over two cupboard doors, each with a fabric panel and flanked to either side by an ebonized caryatid upright, raised on beehive-turned feet to casters.
h. 39", w. 44", d. 14"
Condition Report: In good "as found" condition. The case is sturdy and functional. The piece exhibits a thin finish, normal mars and wear, and some minor past veneer repairs. The marble top appears to be original and/or is antique. There are a number of flea bites around its perimeter edges, but no breaks or repairs. Some scratches and blemishes to the top. Retains locks and a functional key. The drawer pulls are of the period; it is unclear if they are original. Embossed back plates somewhat bent. The upholstery on the pleated panels is later. It is torn on one of the side panels.
