Maya Copador Olla Ballcourt Motif, ex-Schmitt
**Originally Listed At $500**
Pre-Columbian, El Salvador, Maya, Copador type, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-built pottery jar with colorful decorations across the convex exterior. Adorning each hemisphere is a minimalist overhead representation of the Maya ballcourt with a central marker, black scoring areas above and below, and the end zones in C-shaped bars. The Classic Maya Origin Story told in the Popol Vuh describes the ballgame as a contest between humans and underworld deities with the ballcourt representing a portal to the underworld.
