About this Item
[8], 100 leaves. Woodcut device on title page. (sm. 8vo) 15.5x10.5 cm (6¼x4¼"), early vellum. First Edition. First edition of the famed polemic of the Dominican bishop Ambrosius Catharinus against the doctrines of Girolamo Savonarola. Though Catharinus was himself in conflict with Dominican doctrine on some key points, he achieved the upper hand in his dispute with Savonarola, and the latter was hung as a schismatic and heretic on the market-place of Florence in 1498. Ownership marks on title page crossed out in ink at an earlier time; very good. Seller Inventory # 002341
