Recased with new inner hinges. Original endpapers preserved. Other restoration includes releasing the free front endpapers from the pastedowns along the gutter areas. Minor chipping and tears at ends of backstrip have been repaired. Binder's conservation report laid in. INSCRIBED in Lady Burton's hand ("To Dear Uncle Robert with the best love of Richard and Puss Burton, January 22, 1872. Garswood") on the free front endpaper in Volume I. From the John Ralph Willis Collection of Africana with his bookplate on the front pastedowns. Richard and Isabel Burton were married at Garwood, her Uncle Robert's home, in 1861.
