'Plash-Splash gave a leap in the air and vanished into the water', 1928, pen, ink, and watercolour, depicting a river sprite bursting forth from the water to the alarm of a dog and several frogs, monogrammed lower left, 30 x 21 cm (11.75 x 8.25 ins), mounted, framed and glazed. Provenance: From the artist's studio and thence by descent. Original illustration for The Troubles of a Gnome by Zofja Kossak-Szczucka, translated from the Polish by Monica M. Gardner, published by A. & C. Black in 192. Zofia Kossak-Szczucka (1889-1968) was a Polish writer and World War II resistance fighter who assisted Polish Jews to escape the Holocaust. In 1943 she was arrested by the Germans and sent to Auschwitz concentration camp, but survived the war. Very rare art work. Seller Inventory # ABE-1600731465358
