Original woodblock print, Published by Unsodo - Paper - Kasamatsu Shiro (1898-1991) - 'Kamakura Engakuji mae' 鎌倉円覚寺前 (Entrance to the Engakuji Temple, Kamakura) - Japan - Reiwa period (2019-present) Shiro studied arts at Kaburagi Kiyokata. He designed his first woodblock prints for Watanabe Shozaburo in 1919, after the publisher had seen his work at an exhibition. Shiro designed shin-hanga prints for Watanabe for a long period, and gained fame with his romantic landscapes and depictions of the traditional Japanese life. Between 1952 and 1960 he also created over 100 woodblock print designs for the Kyoto publisher Unsodo. Shiro is generally regarded as one of the top shin-hanga woodblock print artists in Japan. First edition in 1953. This is a later edition, printed with the original woodblocks. Image size: 36. 5 x 24. 0 cm. Will be shipped with great care in sturdy packaging to prevent folding.
