Ides was a Danish traveller and diplomat who travelled to China as an ambassador from Russia between the years 1692-94. This account was originally printed in Dutch (1704) at the direction of Burgomaster Witzen before being faithfully done into English in this edition. Recognised as one of the most detailed and accurate descriptions of inner Asia up to that time , it also contained the first European account of the Gobi desert. ESTC T55175. Cordier 2468.
