SIGNED BY JEAN-MARTIN CHARCOT: "A ma jeune amie Mlle ?aia Poliakoff, souvenir charmant de Moscou, 1891 Juilliet. J M Charcot". "In 1891, Charcot was called to Russia by the Grand Duke Constantine, and travelled with his two children in splendor. At that time, Paris-St. Petersburg was a three-day trip, but being a well-traveled and direct connection, with first class accommodations available for the privileged, the Charcots voyaged in comfort and even luxury. After their arrival, Charcot himself was kept very busy with consultations. Jeanne wrote home: 'the patients are everywhere. We have not had a minute to ourselves, with receptions, requests for extra consultations in the countryside. . . .' In Moscow, Poliakoff, the major railway constructor who was Charcot's private patient hosted the Charcots with warmth and sumptuous splendor. 'Papa has such a happy look.' On July 14, as the family departed in Poliakoff's private rail car, Jeanne was covered in bouquets of flowers composed of the French colors. . . . The Russian voyage was the last major trip. . ." (Goetz et al., Charcot: Constructing Neurology, p. 299). See Alla A. Vein, "Jean-Martin Charcot at the Birth of Russian Neurology", Historical Note, in European Neurology Vol. 65, 2011, pp. 75 81. This article can be accessed for free online. It contains a photo of Charcot with his daughter Jeanne, and Moscow neurologists, during the trip in 1891. Seller Inventory # 15872
