Antique print, titled: 'Indiae Orientalis Nova descriptio.' - This original map shows the East Indian archipelago: Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Celebes, New Guinea the Moluccas and the Phillipines, as well as mainland Siam (Thailand), Laos, Cambodia and Cochinchina. This shows modern-day Indonesia as James Cook and other explorers were slowly giving definition to the many islands of the Pacific. From the Spanish edition of the Atlas Novus in four volumes, published by Janssonius in 1653-66. Ref: Koeman 8500:1 B.1, from 1:441.2. Handcoloured engraving on hand laid (verge) paper. Made by 'Johannes Janssonius' after an anonymous artist. Very good, given age. Original middle fold, as issued. The middle fold reinforced with contemporary paper verso. Some soiling and small stains in the margins. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. The overall size is ca. 55 x 46 cm.
