Scuola europea, XVII-XVIII - Scena mitologica

[ translate ]

\Artist: Scuola europea, XVII-XVIII
Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 88. 5_3_122. 5_cm
This large work, datable between the 17th and 18th centuries, we believe to be probably by Flemish hand and represents, in our opinion, an interesting variant of the story of Angelica saved by Ruggero, told in Ludovico Ariosto's work "L 'Furious Orlando'. We affirm that it is a variant, because this scene, in the history of art, has always been represented by great artists, with Angelica tied to a rock, ready to be sacrificed to a sea monster, instead in our painting she is tied to a tree, while the paladin is untying it from the ropes. It is interesting to note that in the background two figures can be glimpsed, which appear to be, from the clothes, Angelica herself who flees pursued by a character and who could represent an antecedent moment in the history of Orlando furioso. This very interesting work has a patina of time, old restorations and relined and measures cm. 122. 5 x 88. 5 including the gold leaf frame and cm. 109 x 75 canvas only. A certificate of lawful provenance from my collection is provided. ATTENTION: the packaging will be very accurate and safe, however we are not responsible for any damage to the frame due to transport, since it must be considered a gift outside the clearing price. For shipments outside the U. E. shipping times will be longer and the unspecified customs fees will be charged to the buyer in the country of arrival.
