Scuola Fiorentina (XVII) - Santa Caterina d'Alessandria

[ translate ]

\Artist: Scuola Fiorentina (XVII)
Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 71_65_5_cm
Ancient painting, oil on canvas, from the 17th century, depicting Saint Catherine of Alexandria. Suggestive canvas, of which we appreciate a refined execution technique and refined colors. The stylistic features and composition suggest the attribution to an author active in Florence during the seventeenth century, with peculiar characters that evoke comparison with the works of the artist Giovanni Martinelli (Montevarchi, 1600 - Florence, 1659) . The format, the pose of the figure, the face and the pictorial manner seem to adhere to the style of the master, a leading exponent in the panorama of early seventeenth-century Florentine painting, just as the analysis of the crack would also indicate a coeval date. The painter trained in Florence in the workshop of Jacopo Ligozzi and then completed his training in Rome between 1621 and 1625 where he studied both the works of his Florentine colleagues who had preceded him, and the post-Caravaggio current with a naturalistic imprint. Back in Florence he painted important altarpieces but in particular, he specialized in the painting of religious and profane half-figures expressing a real suggestion from Francesco Furini and Gentileschian ways. Our canvas therefore appears to be attributable to Martinelli himself or to an artist decidedly close to him. Overall in fairly good condition considering the age of the painting. We note some scattered restorations and some unveiling and cracking of the pictorial surface. There are no conservation problems. The original canvas has no relining and appears in good condition, reinforcement bands have been applied to the sides of the canvas. A fine craquelè is visible in relation to the time. The frame would appear to have been replaced during the last century. Framed in a beautiful frame from a fairly recent period, which has slight defects. Canvas measures: 54 x 48. 5 cm. Frame measurements: 71 x 65 cm. Work accompanied by a certificate of photographic authenticity, as per current legislation. Shipping via insured express courier and packaging carried out with the utmost care.
