The design of the standard Ferrari F430’s front air intakes harked back to the famed “shark nose” 156 that guided the Scuderia to its first Formula 1 Constructors’ championship in 1961. It was therefore appropriate that when the time came to celebrate a 16th world title victory in 2008—which remains the Prancing Horse’s most recent grand prix success to date—Ferrari chose to christen its open-top variant of the 430 Scuderia the “16M”.

The Spider gained the same higher-compression 503 brake horsepower naturally aspirated 4.3-litre V-8 as its closed-roof counterpart. This model also marked the start of the Maranello marque offering a convertible version of its special edition track-focused mid-engined V-8 supercars, a lineage that continues to this day. Engineers were required to significantly strengthen and stiffen the F430 when it came to removing the roof. But the 16M’s revised front and rear bumpers, plus forged alloy wheels, reworked steering and front suspension contributed to an 80 kilogram weight saving.

This specific example is finished in white, with a red soft-top, over a red leather interior complemented by carbon fibre trim. It features a white (rather than the usual yellow) tachometer, and wing-mounted Ferrari shields. The Scuderia Spider 16M was delivered to the first owner in the UK in October 2009 by Graypaul Ferrari Nottingham, where the car returned for subsequent main dealer servicing until 2011. It was later taken to the official Ferrari dealer, Dick Lovett Swindon, for further annual servicing. The consigning owner acquired the car in March 2018, and since then it has been maintained by HR Owen and DK Engineering (invoices available to view on file). Its most recent service was performed in April 2023 by DK Engineering, who also store the 16M, at a cost of £1,002 before the car passed its MoT first time around in March earlier this year. This 16M had covered only 8,955 miles at the time of cataloguing. Further to its detailed history file, it is offered for sale with its Ferrari folio, toolkit, and tyre inflator.

Given the limited production run, the Scuderia Spider 16M remains a highly collectible Ferrari that would be just as at home on the open road as it would be on exhibition at various supercar events.
