13th C. European Leaded Brass Head of the Virgin Mary

Western Europe, possibly France, ca. 13th century CE. A fine leaded brass head of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Ovoid in form, the elegant visage is comprised of a tall forehead, a narrow nasal bridge, a wide nose, sunken, almond-shaped eyes, full cheeks, and a pair of petite, bowed lips. A slender veil frames her sweet head on either side and an attractive light green patina highlights each of her graceful features. Size: 1" W x 1.375" H (2.5 cm x 3.5 cm)

Provenance: ex-Estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, acquired before 2000
