In remnants of the original leather binding, poor condition, 11" x 17", 924 pages (numbering begins with 115 "The Site and Circuit of Great Britain's Monarchie, The Fifth Booke", after Dedication, Table, Poem by John Sanderson, Speed's Proeme), plus index. Retaining damaged title page, lacking frontis portrait of Speed. Foxing throughout, heaviest at first and last, toned throughout. Contents appear to be complete through colophon.
"Second edition revised and enlarged with Sundry descents of ye Saxons Kings, Their Marriages and Armes". Detailed account of Great Britain from the time of the ancient Britons to the reign of Queen Elizabeth, first published in 1612 with the accompanying atlas volume: "The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine." Having numerous woodcuts of coins and seals, engravings of royal genealogies, as well as lists of the early heads of religious houses, colleges and hospitals. Bookplate of Osmond Arthur Wyatt, (1812-1894), Barrister of Inner Temple, representing the Duke of Beaufort, residing at Troy House, Monmouth, Wales, which probably housed this volume in its library.
