(1670–1731) – Pantheon in Rome – Engraving (c. 1725)

This engraving presents two views of the Pantheon in Rome. The upper panel, labeled "Pantheon Agrippae," shows a reconstruction of the original ancient structure as built by Marcus Agrippa, flanked by an allegorical figure and details of Roman coins. The larger lower panel, labeled "Vestigia," depicts the contemporary 18th-century appearance of the building, known as the church of Santa Maria ad Martyres or La Rotonda, with figures in the foreground piazza.Jan Goeree was a Dutch draughtsman, engraver, and poet from Amsterdam, the son of publisher and artist Willem Goeree. He was known for his skilled illustrations for major historical and antiquarian publications, including the Thesaurus antiquitatum Romanarum compiled by Joannes Georgius Graevius.
