[ translate ]

Artist: Charles Le Brun (French, 1619-1690). Engraver: Louis Surugue (Pierre Louis De Surugue, French, 1686-1762), The Different Nations of America Painting on the Grand Staircase at Versailles - etching and burin, executed in Paris, 1720. A striking antique print presenting eight figures representing the Americas - the most prominent one wearing a feather headdress - with a silk cloth draped in front of the group. The Different Nations of America was one of four murals painted in the grand staircase of the Palace of Versailles by Charles Le Brun, the first painter to King Louis XIV, between 1674 and 1679. Although Le Brun was an artist of the Baroque era, he followed Classical drawing techniques, thus linking him to the tenets of the Renaissance. What's more he was a true Renaissance man, respected for his paintings, sculptures, architectural decorations, landscapes - and of course best known for his work in the Palace of Versailles. Size of plate mark: 13.875" L x 10.625" W (35.2 cm x 27 cm) Size of matte: 28.75" L x 25.625" W (73 cm x 65.1 cm)
