This a fascinating map of central Paris, printed on calico-like linen, expectedly intended to be optionally hung like tapestry. Much detail is offered of Paris. To deliniate the area covered more specifically, in the four corners are, starting with upper left and moving clockwise are l'Etoille, Hospital St. Louis, Hopital General, and Vaugiard. Printing of maps on calico, linen, silk, or other fabric, while not common, was not ununsual especially in the 18th and 19th centuries, and several of Rocque's maps were indeed printed on these type of materials. This is a very rare map. Not the original but only a 1970 limited, 500, edition facsimile copies are found on OCLC. A similarly named Rocque map shows the city and its surroundings.
