17TH CENTURY ST. NICHOLAS THE WONDERWORKER ICON

depicting a bust-length St. Nicholas the Wonderworker wearing a bishop's omophorion, egg tempera and gesso on wood panel; dimensions of icon: 31 x 25.7 cm (12 1/4 x 10 1/8 in.)

CONDITION
The icon is in overall stable age-appropriate condition. Vertical split to the middle of the panel with some resulting losses, as apparent in the catalogue images. Small losses above the head and to the right shoulder. Limited areas of lifting to the paint. Old termite damage apparent to the sides of the icon. Two insert splints on verso. Inspection under UV light shows an area of retouching to the left cheek.
