17th C. Engraving of Cleopatra by Sandrart and Collin
A beautiful engraving of Cleopatra drawn by the artist Joachim von Sandrart (German, 1609-1688) and engraved by Richard Collin (1626 Luxembourg - 1698, Brussels) - ca. second half of the 17th century. Cleopatra, the Queen of Egypt, reclines before an architectural setting, dressed in sumptuous garments with drapery folds hugging her voluptuous curves and one breast revealed, a serpent slithering out from her right arm and her left arm behind her head. This engraving was featured in a rare 17th century volume entitled "Galleria Giustiniani" that presented antiquities and sculptures from the Giustiniani art collection. Size: platemark 12.625" W x 8.125" H (32.1 cm x 20.6 cm); sheet measures 14.875" W x 9.625" H (37.8 cm x 24.4 cm)
