17th C. Korean Iron Lock Digeut

East Asia, Korea, ca. 17th to 18th century CE. An iron lock known as a digeut lock, named after a Korean character that resembles this lock's shape. The main body is a U shape, and the sliding bolt has four prongs that fit into slots. A narrow keyhole is formed on the top where one panel and the body join together. This type of lock was perfect for securing rings in place. Size: 1.75" L x .75" W x 2" H (4.4 cm x 1.9 cm x 5.1 cm)

Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA acquired before 2000

Condition Report: Paper inserted to protect and stabilize bolts and lock. Losses and perforations to lower plates. Nicks and chips. Slight being of form and some plates are not flush together. Nice areas of patina.
