The present work was borne of a visit made by John Weale to Holland where he purchased a set of facsimile drawings of the painted glass windows belonging to the church at Gouda. T
hese are reproduced as chromolithographs printed under the supervision of Owen Jones and John Waller.
Alongside are color and black and white plates of similar windows in the church of St Jacques Liege St. George's Chapel Windsor West Wickham Church and a group of churches in York.
