[ translate ]

Good size 18th century Chinese pewter covered tea caddy of square section with indented corners, 4 short legs and cover. Did not photograph well - the colors are off, actual color is typical old pewter. Shoulders, sides, and tops of the cover and the body are inlaid with bronze or dark brass. Four raised panels on the sides are showing ancient bronze vessels with flowering branches, other scholar’s objects, standing crane, butterflies and bats in flight, top of the body is inlaid with scrolling plants. Top of the cover is inlaid with a phoenix in flight among clouds, sides show peaches with branches. Excellent quality precise work with wealth of details (does not photograph well). Thick wall typical for early pieces, double wall to the cover providing better humidity control inside the caddy. Wonderful piece in excellent condition for such an old object made out of relatively soft material. Very pleasant feel to the surface. Height with cover 7 inches.
