18th C. Balinese Gilt Iron 2-Part Buckle w/ Serpents

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Bali, ca. late 18th to early 19th century CE. A wondrous two-part cast-iron buckle featuring serpentine frameworks. The peripheral pythons have impressed triangular scales, rounded tails, arching bodies, and narrow heads, all accentuated with a thin layer of gilding. The slender component has an hourglass-form body surmounting a rectangular strap loop, and the larger buckle features a hinged triangular pin centered between an additional pair of serpents forming an interior strap loop. An intricate, fashionable, and nicely patinated addition to any wardrobe! Size of largest (pin and strap loop): 2.8" W x 3" H (7.1 cm x 7.6 cm)
