18th C. Tibetan Leather Belt w/ Silvered Steel Plates

Central Asia, Tibet, ca. late 18th to early 19th century CE. A broad belt of tanned leather adorned with wide, curving steel plates. Each panel is embellished with silvering that creates dense curvilinear motifs outlined with thin, curving bars and enclosed within a darker stripe with pointed corners. Two suspension hooks resemble abstract yak heads with a pair of lengthy horns curled downwards, and one hook still retains a semicircular handle. The buckle body exhibits similar silver adornments and has a central pin to feed through the perforated leather belt tip. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 38.5" L x 2.2" W (97.8 cm x 5.6 cm)

Condition Report: Slight bending to overall form of some steel panels and iron elements, with age-commensurate desiccation to leather, and softening to some motifs on panels, otherwise intact and very good. Nice patina across panels.
