1940s GRACE WHITEHEAD PHILLIPS OIL

Mid century 1940-50 Original Oil on Canvas Grace Whitehead Phillips (Pennsylvania, 20th c.). Still Life Peonies in Glt wood frame. In frame 20"x24"x1 3/4". Weight 4 pds. PROVENANCE: Gippy Plantation, Berkeley County. Ms. Phillips was a member of The Baum Circle, a group of artists either taught by, associated with, or directly influenced by Pennsylvania impressionist painter Walter Emerson Baum. Ms. Phillips lived in Allentown, PA and became a student at the Baum School in 1933. She painted landscapes and floral still life subjects. She exhibited with the Lehigh Art Alliance, Circulating Picture Club, Allentown Art Museum and the Philadelphia Art Alliance. In 1941, she had a one-women show at the Warwick Gallery in Philadelphia and at the Allentown Museum in 1948. She is listed as an instructor at the school in 1940.
