THE 1956 CHEVROLET BEL-AIR

Few cars epitomize the 1950's in the same way that the 1955, 1956 and 1957 Chevrolet's do. With their first squared off design in 1955 which truly brought Chevrolet into the Jet-Age, they would continue to refine that design for 1956. By taking the 1955 model and merely altering the trim and external details they were able to sell nearly 1.6 million cars and trucks in 1956. The grilles were extended to full-width, containing sidelights, the side trim was extended to the headlights and including a two-tone color spear and the taillights were enlarged, with the left concealing the gas filler. The range topping Bel-Air sedan, named for the 'swank' neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The four-door Hardtop was the most handsome of the range. With pillarless styling the cavernous interior was made nearly convertible when all the windows are put down. The original cost of this Chevrolet would have been approximately $2,329 in 1956.

THE CAR OFFERED

The 1956 Bel-Air on offer here was acquired by the consignor in the 1970's for use to go back and forth to High-School, being always maintained, and sympathetically restored, this Bel-Air really presents extremely well. The striking original color combination of India Ivory and Twilight Turquoise really set off the classic mid-century lines. Being equipped with shockingly original 4-barrel 205-horsepower, 265-cubic-inch V8. It is impressively clean and correct and appears to be in good running order. The car is fitted with a Powerglide automatic transmission and power brakes.
