ALFA ROMEO GIULIA SPRINT GT VELOCE
"Few cars can rival the 1600 Alfa for sheer driving enjoyment, and the keen driver devoting his full attention to driving it will be amply rewarded."
— Car & Driver
With the introduction of the 750-Series Giulietta in 1954, Alfa Romeo established the enduring principle of compact dimensions allied to outstanding performance, a philosophy that would define many of the marque's finest road cars. This lineage evolved through the 101-Series of 1959 and reached full maturity with the introduction of the Giulia range in 1962, retaining familiar body styles while benefiting from a more powerful and refined 1,570cc twin-cam engine.
Launched in 1963, the Giulia Sprint GT featured elegant four-seat coupé coachwork by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Bertone, with production transferred to Alfa Romeo's modern Arese facility. Mechanically advanced for its era, the Sprint GT adopted the 105-Series Giulia TI saloon's five-speed manual transmission, independent front suspension, coil-sprung live rear axle, and—on most examples—four-wheel disc brakes.
Power was initially rated at 106bhp, thanks to twin twin-choke Weber carburetors, providing a top speed in excess of 110mph. For 1967, Alfa Romeo introduced the Sprint GT Veloce, featuring revised inlet porting and an uprated engine producing approximately 109bhp, further enhancing performance and drivability.
Celebrated for their balance, responsiveness, and mechanical sophistication, the Sprint GT and GTV models proved immensely successful, remaining in production for 14 years until 1977. Today, early Sprint GT Veloce's are widely regarded as among the most rewarding and collectible 105-Series Alfa Romeos, combining timeless design with an engaging driving experience.
THE CAR OFFERED
Finished in Rosso Alfa over a black interior, this Giulia Sprint GT Veloce exemplifies the timeless appeal of Alfa Romeo's early 105-series coupés. The vivid red coachwork highlights Giorgetto Giugiaro's crisp Bertone design, while the restrained black cabin with red carpeting provides a purposeful, driver-focused contrast. Additional period pin striping in a yellow/gold finish is featured; it is a wonderful match to the Campagnolo wheels also finished in a matching hue. While the car does have some patina, stone chips and paint flaws in some areas of the body. Powered by Alfa Romeo's renowned 1,570cc twin-cam engine and equipped with a five-speed manual transmission, four-wheel disc brakes, and sophisticated suspension, the Sprint GT Veloce delivers the engaging performance and balance for which the marque is celebrated. This Alfa did receive some modifications to not only boost the power levels but also an increased level of driving excitement. Highly regarded for its combination of elegance, mechanical sophistication, and rewarding driving dynamics, the Sprint GTV remains one of the most desirable sporting coupés of the 1960s.
Chassis no. AR252792 – this step nose Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT Veloce is equipped with BWA steering wheel, Simpson lap belts, bucket seats and a roll bar, emphasizing its sporting character and readiness for track use. Surely a wonderful addition to any sporting and driver's focused collections.
