Le certificat Jaguar Heritage de cet exemplaire confirme sa sortie d'usine le 16 mai 1968, avant d'être vendu neuf en France par l'importateur parisien Delecroix le 14 juin suivant. Elle était alors Opalescent Dark Green avec capote noire et sellerie assortie. Il convient de noter que la traverse avant provient d'un roadster de 1963 et en porte toujours le numéro de série. Son actuel propriétaire en a fait l'acquisition à Paris en 2005, après avoir possédé deux coupés, réalisant ainsi un rêve d'adolescent. Il a ensuite procédé à de nombreux travaux visant à fiabiliser et améliorer l'agrément de conduite de la voiture afin de prendre part à de grands rallyes dans toute l'Europe (Iralnde, Ecosse, Espagne, Italie…). Ainsi le bas moteur a été démonté, contrôlé, les coussinets de ligne d'arbre remplacés. Tous les joints ont été changés. Une tubulure d'échappement retravaillée, en inox, ainsi qu'une ligne complète ont été montées, tandis que l'admission se fait désormais par l'intermédiaire de trois imposants cornets. Nous avons d'ailleurs été enthousiasmés par la mélodie du moteur. Le refroidissement a été amélioré grâce à un radiateur et une boîte à eau en aluminium ainsi qu'un ventilateur additionnel à déclenchement manuel. Un alternateur neuf et un allumage électronique ont également été installés. Une boîte à 5 rapports Getrag a été adaptée et les freins sont à disques ventilés, avec des étriers Coopercraft. Les jantes à rayons ont été remplacées et sont chaussées de pneus Dunlop de 2012. La carrosserie est dorénavant gris métallisé, tandis que la sellerie en cuir crème est en bon état et joliment patinée. La planche de bord comporte les éléments d'origine, complétés d'une paire de chronomètres Heuer et d'une double prise allume-cigare. La capote est quant à elle en bon état d'usage. Un essai en compagnie du propriétaire nous a permis de constater à quel point cette voiture avait été optimisée, sans être dénaturée, afin d'envisager de grandes distances sans la moindre appréhension. Cette voiture restaurée pour rouler est le fruit d'expérience de dizaines de milliers de kilomètres parcourus en Type E.

The Jaguar Heritage certificate for this E-Type confirms that it left the factory on 16 May 1968, before being sold new in France through the Parisian importer Delecroix on 14 June. At that time the car was Opalescent Dark Green with a black hood and matching upholstery. It should be noted that the front crossmember is from a 1963 roadster and still bears its serial number. The current owner acquired the car in Paris in 2005, having already owned two coupés, the realisation of a childhood dream. He proceeded to carry out extensive work to make this E-Type more reliable and drive better in order to take part in major rallies across Europe (Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Italy…). The lower part of the engine was dismantled, inspected and the main camshaft bearings replaced. The gaskets were all changed. A rebuilt manifold in stainless steel and a full exhaust line have been fitted while the inlet is now through three imposing trumpets. We were also impressed by the sound of the engine. The cooling system has been improved with the addition of an aluminium radiator and water tank, and an additional manually operated fan. A new alternator and electronic ignition have also been installed. A Getrag 5-speed gearbox has been adapted and the car has ventilated disc brakes with Coopercraft calipers. The wire wheels have been replaced and are fitted with 2012 Dunlop tyres. The coachwork is now metallic grey, with nicely patinated cream leather upholstery in good condition. The dashboard instruments are original, supplemented by a pair of Heuer chromometers and a double socket cigarette lighter. The hood is in good, used condition. A test drive with the owner demonstrated how much the car has been improved, without losing its character, in order to carry out long distances without the slightest apprehension. This car, restored to be driven, is the result of thousands of miles covered in an E-Type.
