1981 BMW 323i

[ translate ]

Chassis No. WBAAH310XB7796065
Engine No. 7796065
Introduced in 1978, the BMW 323i stood as the flagship of the E21 3 Series, pairing compact proportions with the marque's signature inline-six performance. Its 2.3-liter M20 engine, equipped with Bosch fuel injection, produced 143 PS, delivering smooth, responsive power and a top speed of approximately 190 km/h.
Available exclusively as a two-door, the 323i combined agility with increased refinement over its four-cylinder counterparts, elevating the model's overall character. Produced through 1982, it represents the ultimate evolution of the first-generation 3 Series and established the defining formula of a compact, rear-wheel-drive BMW powered by a smooth inline-six engine.
This example, chassis 7796065, is a wholly original, unrestored E21 with a genuine three-digit odometer reading. Produced in June 1981 and dispatched on 3 June 1981 through Autohaus Hackelbörger of Beckum, it was first registered on 20 August 1981. Finished in Stratosblau Metallic and specified from new with a steel sunroof and alloy wheels, it has been meticulously preserved since delivery. Its first owner fell ill soon after taking possession and laid the car up on a two-car lift within a duplex garage, where it remained following his eventual passing. The odometer today shows just 943 kilometers from new.
A BMW Classic Zertifikat, issued on 22 October 2012, confirms the factory specification, production date, and original dealer delivery. A Classic Data appraisal completed in November 2018 awarded the car an overall condition score of 1- and described it plainly as "practically a 31-year-old new car." For a collector for whom originality is paramount, chassis 7796065 is about as close to the factory floor as the beloved E21 generation gets.
