1992 Ferrari 512 TR

[ translate ]

Chassis No. ZFFLA40B000092803
At first glance, the Ferrari 512 TR bears a striking visual resemblance to its predecessor, the Testarossa, and many have been mistaken for believing there is little difference between the two. A closer look reveals the subtle styling revisions executed by Pininfarina to the car's exterior encompassing redesigned C-pillars, engine lid, and bumpers, which housed new driving lights and brake-cooling ducts at the front. More prominent were the TR's new 18 inch alloy wheels, which retained the classic five-spoke design but with slimmer spokes for a lower and lighter overall appearance. Inside, new seats and instrument housings added to the list of changes over the outgoing Testarossa, but these were minor alterations compared to the improvements that had been made behind the driver.
The 512 TR's mid-mounted twelve-cylinder engine was subject to a series of modifications including higher compression (up from 8.7:1 to 10.0:1), Nikasil-coated aluminum cylinder liners, larger intake valves, hotter cams, and refinements in ignition and manifolding, bringing output just over 10 percent up from 380 horsepower to 421 horsepower. To lower the center of gravity, the engine was also mounted about an inch lower in the reworked chassis, which boasted increased rigidity, larger-diameter cross-drilled disc brakes, and lighter suspension components. These improvements made quite a difference not only in its subjective handling feel, but also on the short Fiorano test track where it was a full second faster than the Testarossa.
This fine 512 TR was completed in 1992 as a left-hand drive European-market example, finished in timeless Rosso Corsa over Nero leather upholstery. As such, it is fitted with smaller side indicator lights and desirably lacks the passive restraint system equipped on US-market cars. Documentation on file places the Ferrari in France as early as October 1998 with a service invoice from Ferrari France, Ch. POZZI S.A. in Paris. Showing 14,002 kilometers at the time of the service, the car received a new clutch and throw-out bearing before returning in November 2000 for a major engine-out service. Conducted at 15,236 kilometers, the service encompassed replacing the timing belt tensioner bearing, accessory belts, gaskets, and fluids. The 512 TR visited Ferrari France on at least one more occasion in May 2002, followed by a service at the renowned Garage Francorchamps in Brussels, Belgium in February 2003. In more recent times, the Ferrari was treated to another major engine-out service at Ferrari Francorchamps Motors Luxembourg in March 2023. Highlights of the work performed included the replacement of the fuel lines, valve cover gaskets, timing belt and tensioner, front wheel bearings, servicing the air conditioning system, and a fluids change.
Imported to the United States in 2023, this 512 TR shows only 33,867 kilometers on its odometer at the time of cataloging and presents in highly original condition – save for its yellow-tinted headlights alluding to its French ownership history. Offered with its owner's manuals in their leather folio and its Schedoni leather tool kit, this attractive, low-mileage Ferrari 512 TR presents an opportunity to enjoy a more powerful and refined version of the already spectacular Testarossa.
