THE LAND ROVER DEFENDER

During the 1970s, experiments began to develop a 'next-generation' Land Rover using the Range Rover's coil-sprung chassis, and a new model debuted at the 1983 Geneva International Motor Show in 110" wheelbase configuration. While the familiar (and beloved) Land Rover body shape remained, coil springs replaced the venerable leaf spring suspension, and the four-cylinder engines were now backed with an all-synchromesh five speed gearbox. In 1984 the coil spring Ninety (with a wheelbase just short of 93 inches) fitted with a four-cylinder engine was introduced, and in 1990, the Ninety and One-Ten range was renamed Defender 90, 110 and 130 with a new range of engines including a V8 petrol and several diesel options. While the looks remained generally unchanged through the years, engines, gearboxes, and underpinnings were continually improved to ensure the Land Rover Defender remained The Best 4x4xFar.

THE CAR OFFERED

In its sharp shade of White paint accented with aggressive black diamond plate, its full exterior roll cage, upgraded LED lighting, and tubular bumpers. Additionally, the undercarriage is fully detailed, with upgraded anti-roll bars, black 'bead-locker' wheels shod with chunky BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires, and black side steps complete the tough aesthetic. It is readily apparent that this is no ordinary Defender.

Beginning life as a desirable Defender 90, with the robust and efficient 122bhp 2.5-liter Tdi engine. This truck was extensively appointed by Helderburg of Arkansas. Helderburg maintain a "Hand-Built in England" sort of feel to all their gentlemanly spec'd Land Rovers. Restored and re-imagined, this Defender is a bespoke build, wholly unique in its colors and specification.

Aside from exterior improvements, Helderburg really understands where the shortcoming of the original defenders was; their interiors. When they turned their attention to the interior, Helderburg added swathes of rich leather on nearly every surface, including the door cards, seats, console, and dash. The only things that are spared are the truck floor and beautiful steering wheel which are done in exotic wood. The black seats – including the rear jump-seats – feature diamond-pattern inserts. Additionally, sound is restricted by Alcantara that has been used in this trucks headliner to truly envelope its occupants in luxury.

At home both in the uplands while shooting, or on the school-run, this Defender is ready to transport one wherever they choose to go in absolute comfort and style.
