While the late Tina Turner is widely acclaimed as one of the most accomplished and successful female music artists of all time, the Queen of Rock’s enthusiasm for cars was less well known. Once the owner of a Jaguar E-Type, Ms Turner commented that her earlier experience with an XJ6 “awakened my passion for fast cars”. In the afterglow of releasing Private Dancer in 1984—an album now ranked five-times Platinum in the United States—Ms Turner put her earnings towards the purchase of a Lamborghini LM002. On leaving the United States for Switzerland in 1995, the popstar needed a new set of wheels.

The Mercedes-Benz S 320 offered here is the former personal car of the 12-time Grammy Award-winner. The car’s service book notes its first owner as EMI Records (Switzerland) AG, dated 21 February 1995. It is believed that Ms Turner assumed day-to-day ownership of the car soon after, retained at her private address in Küsnacht near Zürich. The car was built in Black over a Black leather interior with wood trim, configured with an electric roller blind for the rear window—fit for a popstar looking to avoid the gaze of the paparazzi. After Ms Turner sold the car in the mid-2000s, the S 320 entered storage at a location in Germany and was not used for several years. Today, the Mercedes-Benz presents in good condition with a GTÜ inspection performed in October 2023, and is as a fascinating artefact of pop history.
