19th C. British Dueling Pistols + Accessories, Case

Western Europe, England, London, ca. first half of the 19th century CE. A wonderful matched set of British steel dueling percussion pistols, each with a hand-carved wooden handle with an incised, textured grip, an articulated hammer and trigger, a nubbin-shaped percussion cap head, and an octagonal barrel with no interior rifling grooves. Beneath each barrel is a ram rod with a flat, circular head and a slender body that pivots on a petite fulcrum. The pistols also have matching maker's marks: a crowned 'V' and a crowned 'P' on the barrel, and "E London 51 London Wall" on the handles. Included with the pistols are two carved bone lidded jars, one with five musket balls, and the other with a smattering of percussion caps. A mold-formed brass powder flask has a pair of palmettes in repousse as well as a spring-loaded release trigger. A fabulous ensemble from England! Custom wooden carrying case included. Size of each pistol (both are relatively similar): 8" L x 4.3" H (20.3 cm x 10.9 cm).

Condition Report: Minor abrasions to both pistols and powder flask, with light encrustations within some recessed areas, otherwise intact and very good. Interior of wooden case has tears to areas of textile lining and loss to one lock tab, and exterior has small chips to lower periphery as well as several small fissures to top of lid. Nice patina to all components. Guns have not been tested for firing functionality.
