19th C. Moroccan Tin Glazed Pottery Bowl, ex-Museum

North Africa, Morocco, Fez (Fes) region, Islamic culture, ca. late 19th to 20th century CE. This is a lovely example of traditional Fez ware, wheel thrown and hand painted with tin-glazes. The piece rests on a ring foot that is pierced for suspension to display when not in use, and the surface is painted a creamy white. The slightly flared rim is painted a teal blue and the interior is adorned with teal as well as cobalt, yellow, and dark brown-blacks pigments to form a central petaloid motif surrounded by larger petals filled with scrolling abstract foliate motifs. Size: 11.625" W x 3.25" H (29.5 cm x 8.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-Ashland University Museum, Ashland, Ohio, USA, donated to Ashland University between July 1994 to December 1998
