[ translate ]

Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, probably Haida, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand-carved red cedar, double bowled vessel of an overall rectangular form with a dividing wall down the center, skillfully painted with eyes of sacred animals on both ends in red and black. Traditionally, wooden vessels were used for storing and serving water and foodstuffs. Hot stones could be added to cook the contents.
