(2) Korean Porcelain Four Seasons Vases: each with incised and painted decoration, which include panels dedicated to each of the four seasons. Each signed in characters on the base. Dimensions are: tallest - 12 3/4 inches tall X 8 inches diameter; shortest - 9 3/8 inches tall X 9 1/2 inches diameter. All measurements are approximate. Condition: Free of chips, cracks, and restoration. Provenance: From the private collection of a former diplomat with the U.S. state department and his wife. Our consignor also served in the U.S. Armed Forces, serving two tours in Seoul, Korea. It was during his second tour between 1996 and 1998 that these pieces were purchased in various pottery shops located in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Our consignor’s wife set up and ran a program on Yongsan Army post, where she would take military wives on shopping tours to the pottery shops in Yeoju. Subsequently, they had greater opportunities to find and purchase unique and well-made examples of pottery that was not regularly available in Seoul to most travelers.
