2 Roman Glass Unguentaria w/ Nice Iridescence

[ translate ]

**First Time At Auction**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A nice set of 2 unguentaria that are free blown from translucent glass of yellow-green hues. The first unguentarium features a spherical body with a slightly concave base, a tall, narrow neck, and an in-folded rim. The larger vessel is of similar construction but exhibits a pontil scar beneath its base. Both vessels are enveloped in layers of attractive rainbow-hued iridescence that nicely complement their springtime hues. Size of largest: 2.2" W x 4.6" H (5.6 cm x 11.7 cm)

Provenance: private Corpus Christi, Texas, USA estate collection, acquired 1960s to 1970s

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to recent increases of shipments being seized by Australian & German customs (even for items with pre-UNESCO provenance), we will no longer ship most antiquities and ancient Chinese art to Australia & Germany. For categories of items that are acceptable to ship to Australia or Germany, please contact us directly or work with your local customs brokerage firm.

Display stands not described as included/custom in the item description are for photography purposes only and will not be included with the item upon shipping.

#165248
Condition Report: Chipping and small area of loss to rim of smaller vessel as shown; taller vessel is intact and very good. Both vessels have light surface abrasions, some micro-bubbling within glass matrices, and minor weathering film, with smaller vessel showing one petite pressure fissure beneath foot. Pontil mark on underside of larger vessel. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time. Nice rainbow iridescence across both vessels.
