Fr. 190b $10 1864 Compound Interest Treasury Note PCGS Banknote Extremely Fine 40. An unusually high grade circulated example, this scarce middle-of-the-book type bears a comment on the grading service holder about a minor restoration, but any such restoration appears to be nothing more than a simple reinforcing of a partially open fold. The bronze, while it has lost its flashy color, has not oxidized to the point of damaging the paper, or for that matter, even showing through to the back. The margins, while they vary in size, are far superior to what is normally observed on these seldom seen notes. The ink and paper colors are bright and vivid. Only a few more than 100 are known to Track & Price. Their listing of grades indicates that 40 is well within the top ten percent of known examples. Middle-of-the-book notes were out of favor for a number of years, but have recently found their footing again and become part of all mainstream collections of large size US type.
