2004 Maserati Coupé Trofeo Light GT3
Chassis No. MTL12
The Maserati Trofeo Light was an evolution of Maserati's Trofeo racecar based on the Giorgetto Giugiaro-designed Maserati Coupe Cambiocorsa. Produced by Maserati Trofeo in Modena in partnership with Italtecnica, the Trofeo Light was aimed at competing in sportscar racing series on an international level, including the Italian GT Championship and FIA GT3 European Championship.
As its name entails, the Trofeo Light's body panels were put on a strict composite diet, resulting in a mere 1,150-kilogram dry weight. The Trofeo's 4.2-liter V8 was upgraded to 430 CV thanks to a modified ECU and intake, paired with an Xtrac six-speed sequential transmission. Further enhancements included sharpened aerodynamics, widened wheel arches, and a comprehensively reworked suspension featuring tubular steel arms. Maserati produced just 10 Trofeo Lights in total, with most chassis competing in sportscar races worldwide as envisioned.
The consignor acquired this 2004 Maserati Trofeo Light, chassis number MTL12 directly from Maserati S.p.A. in 2007. It was only used for a handful of track days, sporting under 1,000 kilometers, and was last used on track in 2025. Elegantly specified, it is presented in Blu Mediterraneo; its stripped out interior punctuated by blue OMP Racing seats with red accents. Included with the sale is a selection of spares that include extra headlights and springs; and is additionally furnished with a Maserati Trofeo Light Reference Book, Set Up sheet, and its all-important FIA technical documents.
With just 10 Trofeo Lights constructed and chassis number MTL12 boasting such limited track mileage, this 2004 Maserati Trofeo Light is an attractive prospect for those in search of a highly capable and uniquely collectible track weapon for historic racing.
