2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster
Chassis No. WDDRK7HA6CA007224
The engineers and designers at AMG are accustomed to creating powerful and dynamic automobiles; but nothing prepared them for the unique challenge they were handed by the board of directors in Sindelfingen during a December 2006 board meeting. They were not only tasked with creating the new AMG super sports car but one that would also pay homage to their most cherished design, the 300 SL “Gullwing” coupe. The result of their efforts was proudly displayed at the 2009 Frankfurt International Auto Show, immediately winning the hearts of car enthusiasts worldwide. The new SLS AMG beautifully captured the retro design elements of the Gullwing while bringing its iconic style into the modern era. Mercedes-Benz followed up the coupe with the SLS AMG Roadster in 2011, to give those who dreamt of open-air motoring with the power of the AMG-designed, dry-sump 6.3-liter “M159” V8 the opportunity to do so in luxurious convertible style.
This particular 2012 SLS AMG Roadster was ordered new in AMG Le Mans Red Metallic (434) with a unique Ruby Red (746) power-folding soft top. Contrasting the bright red exterior, the interior is finished in two-tone Sand and Black designo leather with exclusive leather and AMG aluminum trim. This example was optioned with the $6,400 Bang & Olufsen 1000-watt “high-end” sound system, allowing for wonderful audio quality even with the roof lowered. Other features of this car are the staggered 19- and 20-inch AMG twin five-spoke forged alloy wheels housing six-piston front and four-piston rear brake calipers with cross-drilled and ventilated rotors on all four corners.
Purchased new in North Carolina in February 2012, this SLS AMG Roadster was retained by its original owner for the next seven years. Upon its acquisition by the second owner in February 2019, the accompanying CARFAX Vehicle History Report shows the car had covered just over 8,600 miles at the time of purchase. The Arizona-based owner retained the car until a Texas enthusiast purchased it in December 2019 with just under 10,000 miles. Following their purchase, an “A Service” was performed where the battery, engine oil, engine oil filter, brake fluid, and cabin air filter were replaced, along with a general inspection being performed by Mercedes-Benz of Austin for just over $1,900. More recently, Mercedes-Benz of Austin performed an additional A Service in December 2022 at 10,054 miles with the installation of fresh Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.
