2017 Royale Coupé, Registration no. WXO 836 Chassis no. JR17022017RHD0100

*Built by John Barlow
*Unique creation
*Automatic transmission
*Glassfibre body

A truly striking car, this Royale Coupé was beautifully constructed in 2017 to a very high standard using a 1989 3.6-litre Jaguar XJ-S as the basis. This stunning car's creator is John Barlow, a man with some 40 years experience of kit car design and production, including the Royale range. John created the car for his own entertainment, not as the start of a production run.

This wonderful one-off is built on a custom-made chassis frame, based on that of the Royale Sabre but stronger and stiffer, and has a hand built glassfibre body. All mechanical items have been overhauled, and the quality of finish to the paintwork, upholstery, etc has to be seen to be fully appreciated. We are advised the car is wonderfully tight and rattle-free to drive and, being light, performs very well with a superb automatic transmission, lovely exhaust note, precise steering, etc, etc.

John Barlow has long been fascinated by 1930s cars from the likes of Delage and Delahaye, two-seater coupés in particular, and the Royale is reminiscent of their exotic machinery from the late pre-war and early post-war periods, when streamlining and aerodynamics were beginning to be of increasing importance in passenger car design. The split windscreen and rear window are lovely touches, and the Royale could easily be mistaken for a production car of the period, such is the quality of its construction. It really is an eye catcher! John is quoted as saying that this Royale is "probably the best-driving car I've built. It has the supple ride of the Jaguar combined with good handling".

Fewer than 1,000 miles have been covered since the car's completion and it comes with a V5C registration document and an MoT certificate valid until October 2022. You won't find another like this!
