Delving into the realm of the second-generation Ford GT prompts the inevitable question: What can be expressed about it that hasn't already been ecstatically articulated by the global automotive press and a legion of thoroughly satisfied owners? Perhaps more than any other modern 21st century automobile, the new Ford GT was an actual Le Mans car for the road, developed with the objective of winning the famed 24 hour endurance race firmly in mind. Utilizing a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, aerodynamically efficient carbon-fiber body, and a twin-turbocharged 647 horsepower Ecoboost engine, Ford's latest supercar was not only one of the most impressive American vehicles ever built but truly one of the finest supercars in the world.
Ford's competitive aspirations were resoundingly fulfilled, evidenced by Chip Ganassi Racing-entered models clinching first and third in class at Le Mans, coincidentally marking half a century since the original GT40's historic victory. Following this success, the new model would experience massive interest from collectors around the world who were required to complete the infamous application process. After receiving nearly 6,500 applications, only 1,350 lucky customers were selected as caretakers for the latest Ford GT that concluded production at the end of 2022.
Once selected, soon-to-be Ford GT owners began the process of tailoring their vehicles via Ford's Concierge Service involving personalized selections from an array of options, paints, and interiors. For some, of course, the proper livery was, as they say, a no-brainer. Ford had begun to tease its customer base with the introduction of very limited-production Heritage Editions that offered paint schemes inspired by the most famous successful competition GT40s of the 1960s. Similar to its predecessor, these examples finished in what Ford has boldly but correctly described as “the most famous paint scheme in motorsports,” would gather considerable demand from GT customers when it finally became available to buyers in 2019 as part of the new Heritage Edition.
Paying homage to the Gulf Oil sponsored GT40 number 1075, the highly anticipated '68 Heritage Edition would of course be finished in Heritage Blue and Heritage Orange, used with Gulf Oil's full backing of the iconic livery. Much more than just a stellar paint job, Heritage cars would also feature orange brake calipers, exposed carbon fiber A-pillars, silver rear-view mirror caps, and unique 20-inch one-piece forged aluminum wheels finished in a high-gloss dark stainless finish with black lug nuts. The interior, swathed in Ebony Alcantara, showcased seats with stitching in contrasting blue and orange thread, and embossed with a pattern inspired by the two-time Le Mans-winning GT40, while high-gloss dark stainless appliques mirrored the wheel finish. Exposed carbon fiber elements, such as door sills and air register pods, underscored the design spirit inspired from Gulf Oil-sponsored GT40 number 1075 that beat European competitors on the track twice in a row. A mere fifty Heritage Edition examples were produced for 2019 which were swiftly acquired for some of the world's most impressive car collections.
Delivered new to a respected collector in the GT's home state of Michigan, this example finished in Heritage Blue and Heritage Orange features the '68 Heritage roundel graphic package and is being offered for the first time from its original owner. In addition to the highly-exclusive Heritage Edition package, this 2019 Ford GT was desirably equipped with optional six-point racing harness anchors, titanium lug nuts, and titanium Akrapovič exhaust system. In addition, upon being delivered through Village Ford in Dearborn, Michigan this vehicle was promptly protected with a professionally installed full-vehicle XPEL clear bra.
Offered with a mere 58 miles at the time of cataloging, this 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition along with the 2006 Heritage GT offered without reserve in this auction, are from the same private collection, having been incredibly well-preserved by the first and only owner who retained nearly all the material received from before and after the delivery process.
