20th C. African Dogon Wood Anthropomorphic Figure

West Africa, Mali, Dogon peoples, ca. mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden anthropomorphic figure of an abstract form shown squatting atop an integral circular plinth. The slender figure sits upright with a pinched abdomen and broad shoulders, and the bulging neck is surmounted by a hemispherical head. Remains of light brown pigment are visible across the figure. Size: 1.8" W x 6.25" H (4.6 cm x 15.9 cm)

Provenance: private Houston, Texas, USA collection, purchased in 2015 from Matt Scheiner, Gallery Jatad, Houston, Texas, USA
