20th C. Indonesian Wood Kris Handle
Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. first half of the 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden kris handle in the form of an abstract and adorable zoomorphic creature, perhaps a camelid like the chevrotain (or 'mouse-deer'). The creature has a lengthy neck surmounted by a petaloid head and features a pair of perky ears as well as two enormous black iron eyes. Size: 0.8" W x 4" H (2 cm x 10.2 cm); 5.4" H (13.7 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: Estate of R. Pearson, Denver, Colorado, USA; Mr. Pearson collected from the third quarter of the 20th century until he passed away; ex-Arte Primitivo Gallery, New York, New York, USA
