20th C. Indonesian Wood & Steel Kris
Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A beautiful example of a keris with a hand-carved wooden handle depicting the head of an abstract avian creature as well as a brass spacer cup beneath. The double-edged steel blade has a straight profile, a lightly protruding hand guard, and strands of lighter material hammered throughout the composition. The wooden sheath exhibits an attractive caramel hue and features another abstract avian head on one side of the guard protector. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size (w/ sheath): 6.9" W x 20.3" H (17.5 cm x 51.6 cm); (blade): 13.25" L (33.7 cm).
