20th C. Japanese Meiji Silk Scroll Painting w/ Birds

[ translate ]

East Asia, Japan, Meiji period, ca. early 20th century CE. A lovely silk painting mounted on a scroll, depicting birds on a blossoming cherry tree. The birds are perched on the thick trunk, and one opens its beak as if screaming a warning note at some unseen intruder in the bamboo reeds. The painting is unsigned and mounted on blue brocade and brown silk with a paper backing. The scroll has a polished bovine bone roller rod through the bottom, rather than wood, and a cord attached to the upper wood rod for suspension. A beautiful composition that is perfect for springtime decorating. Size: 69" L x 16.75" W (175.3 cm x 42.5 cm)

Provenance: private Evergreen, Colorado, USA collection; ex-private Denver, Colorado, USA, collection, acquired 1960 to 2000

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
